Ok, did I enter some parallel universe?
First, the Seahawks were absolutely OWNED by Buffalo (aka a mediocre team at best) on Sunday in the season opener. It was painful to watch... so painful that I pretty much fast-forwarded through most of the second half.
Secondly, we already have our 3 best wide receivers on the injury lists; arguably our best, Deion Branch, is 7 months into a torn ACL recovery... hopefully we'll get him in another month or two. Now, our only healthy receiver with any sort of experience, Nate Burleson (who is also our kick return guy on special teams) is out for the season with a torn ACL. Our starting running back is also out for two weeks with a knee injury.
The most painful (to my heart) injury of all is that my man Tom Brady is out for the season with a torn ACL, too. Here's the thing- this is a guy who has the third longest streak of not missing a start in the NFL (for quarterbacks, at least) at 133 games. That's almost unheard of- most quarterbacks get a little banged up and at least miss a start or two late in the season once playoffs are clinched. To go from that to out for the season in the first few minutes of the opening game of the season is just tragic.
I hate ACL's right now.
Also, my high school history teacher, who was a bit of an inspiration in me becoming a high school history teacher myself, became superintendent of another eastern WA school district. He was always very strict (he was an ex-Marine), very anal (seriously- we had to keep the room in PERFECT condition and were never allowed to so much as move our desks) and he was very much the straight and narrow involved public citizen.
Now? He was stopped for suspicious driving (swerving over the center lane) and was found what marijuana and all sorts of crazy sex toys in his car. CRAZY! I can hardly believe it. If you're interested, here's the story.
Seriously- what is going on? This is all nuts- I will wake up tomorrow and the 'Hawks will be 1-0 with a totally healthy team, Tom Brady will be smokin' fools, lighting up the field with shots to Randy Moss, and Mr. Gregory will not be completely tarnished.
Oy. Freaking. Vey.
